Works on the Free plan: 15 diagram nodes + 150 notes, text, stickers & mind map topics per diagram.
A mind map starts with one idea in the middle and grows outward as you think. This template gives you a central topic and four starter branches: why it matters, key ideas, open questions, and next steps. Rename them, delete the ones you do not need, and keep branching.
The map lays itself out as you type. Press Tab to add a child topic, Enter to add a sibling, and the branches stay balanced on both sides with their own colours. You never drag boxes around to make room, so you can stay in the flow of the idea instead of tidying the page.
When to use it
- Exploring a new topic before you know how it is structured.
- Taking notes in a lecture, interview, or meeting where ideas arrive out of order.
- Breaking a big goal into smaller parts you can act on.
- Preparing an essay, a talk, or a product brief by mapping the main points first.
How to use it
Click the central topic and type your main idea.
Select a branch and press Tab to add a child, or Enter to add the next idea at the same level.
Use Alt and the arrow keys to move between topics without touching the mouse, and Delete to remove a branch with everything under it.
Switch the layout between balanced, left, and right when the map gets wide, then share a link or export an image.
Questions
Do I have to arrange the branches myself?
No. Live layout places every topic for you and keeps siblings evenly spaced. You can still turn live layout off for a map if you want to position topics by hand.
Can I connect two ideas on different branches?
Yes. Draw an edge between any two topics to add a cross-link. It shows as a dashed line so it is easy to tell apart from the tree itself, and it does not change the layout.
Does a large mind map fit on the Free plan?
On Free, mind map topics do not count toward the 15 diagram nodes; they share the separate allowance of 150 notes, text, stickers, and mind map topics per diagram, so most maps fit without upgrading.
