Architecture
API Gateway, Lambda, DynamoDB, EventBridge, SQS and Cognito
Works on the Free plan: 15 diagram nodes + 150 notes, text, stickers & mind map topics per diagram.
This template shows a serverless web application on AWS. CloudFront serves the static front end from Amazon S3, users sign in with Amazon Cognito, and the app calls Amazon API Gateway, which checks the token and invokes the orders-api Lambda function that reads and writes a DynamoDB table.
When an order is placed, the function publishes an OrderPlaced event to Amazon EventBridge. A rule sends it to an Amazon SQS queue, the queue triggers the fulfillment-worker function, and the worker sends the confirmation through Amazon SES. Event edges are dashed, so the request path and the background work are easy to tell apart.
Rename the functions, the table, the queue and the events to match your application.
Add what your system needs: a dead-letter queue, a workflow for longer jobs or another consumer of the event bus.
Use dashed edges for events and solid edges for direct calls so readers can follow both paths.
Share the diagram with reviewers, export it for the README or the design document, and keep revisions as the stack evolves.
Yes, as a starting point. Paste a CloudFormation or SAM template, or the output of cdk synth, into the free CloudFormation to diagram tool. Functions, tables, queues, topics and APIs become cloud nodes with AWS service icons, connected by their references and ready to edit.
Yes. The cards are vendor-neutral cloud nodes with AWS service icons, so you can rename them for Azure Functions, Cosmos DB and Service Bus, or for Cloud Run, Firestore and Pub/Sub, or start from blank nodes in the Cloud pack.
Yes. Connect your AI agent to Archboard over MCP and describe your stack. It can draw a new diagram on your canvas or extend this one, and you edit the result like any other diagram.
